It has been over ten years since retirement, and I’ve been active in genealogy since. It turns out that the research skills of a bookkeeper transfer over quite well to digging out family details. It also helps if you get really nosy.
My focus is more about fleshing out the stories of my ancestors and less on mere ancestor collection. Even one bit of new information can shift your perspective on a person’s story. While fewer quality sources matter more to me than many sources of questionable provenance, I have found those iffy ones can sometimes contain a clue or two. And looking at data from different angles has helped me make connections I might have otherwise missed.
Genealogy has also taught me the importance of sharing what you know to decrease the chance that knowledge will disappear. Hence this site. It is very much a work in progress, so please do check back now and again.
Thanks for taking a look!
